This site is dedicated to those fisherman interested in catching the amazing steelhead trout. For many years I had heard about these big and beautiful fish but I've never seen one. The folks I did know who had caught one of these elusive fish were very tight lipped about where and how to do it. Another reason I couldn't find a steelhead was that they were very few in the rivers around where I lived in Washington. This was probably the reason why no one would tell me how to catch them. This all changed the day I moved to Lewiston, Idaho. Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston Washington join where the Snake and Clearwater rivers come together. This area is called the "confluence" in my vocabulary it is steelhead heaven. I moved to Idaho right at the beginning of the steelhead season. The studio that I was renting belonged to a man who was a hard-core steelhead fishermen. Not only did he take the time to tell me how to fish for the steelhead he took me out in his boat and showed me how. To my amazement, he introduced me to one of the guides who works on the Clearwater, and snake rivers. This guide was looking for a deckhand to help out to rig his clients fishing poles for them so they could spend more time fishing. I jumped at the chance to get an education on how to catch these fish. On my days off I would go out fishing for steelhead in my kayak, which I rigged up an anchor for so I could sit and bobber fish. You should have seen the looks on the fisherman's faces at the confluence. You see, almost everybody fishing here in the river has a jet boat big and beautiful. Most of these boats them cost more than a house, so I kind of stuck out in my little blue kayak. It was actually kind of funny watching me look up on a 15 pound steelhead and try to land it in my little boat. A few times my anchor would come loose and I get taken on quite a ride. After a while these fishermen started talking to me as we sat fishing. I have never been around a nicer bunch of people. There are so many steelhead here that people are more than happy to share everything they know about how to catch these fish. This website is dedicated to all you folks who don't know anything about how to catch a steelhead.
